March Art Break Programs
Program and registration information about our March Art Break Programming in 2011 will appear online and in the Winter Markham Life Guide in late October.

Half-Day Sessions for Age 4-6 Full-Day Sessions for Age 7-12 Full-week for Age 9-13
Half-day and Full-day classes are held at the Varley Art Gallery. Full-week classes are held at the McKay Art Centre.

| Half-Day Sessions for Age 4-6: |
|
Register for a 3-hour hands-on studio program and take your art creations home. Morning programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and afternoon programs run from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Cost per program: $26.00 for non-members $23.40 for members $28.00 for non-residents
Please have the kids dressed in art-friendly clothing and pack a peanut-free snack or lunch if applicable. This is a drop-off program. All materials included.

| Sculpture Factory- Monday |
|
| Work in 3D! Design and create sculpture in plastecine, clay and a variety of other everyday materials. Learn techniques of relief and additive sculpture, and build to your hearts content! |

| Drawing 101- Tuesday |
|
| The perfect class for your young artist to be introduced to the magic of drawing. Kids will create artworks such as still life drawings and self-portraits. As they discover the world around them, drawing sharpens their observation and spatial skills. |

|
| Ready, Set, Paint! - Wednesday |
|
| Explore the fundamentals of colour and design, examining various painting techniques and mediums. Students will work in watercolour, acrylic and tempera paints, studying different styles of painting from traditional to more modern forms. |

|
| Junior Jewellers - Thursday |
|
| Kids will make bright and colourful beaded art, like a bracelet or keychain, and a funky sculpted ring as well! |
| |
|
| Passport to Art - Friday |
|
| Pack your suitcases for an artistic journey to the other side of the world. Kids will create artwork inspired by the global traditions from other corners of the earth in this mixed media extravaganza. |

Register for a 7-hour hands-on studio program and take your art creations home. Programs run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All materials included.
Cost per program: $47.00 for non-members $42.30 for members $49.00 for non-residents

| Sculpture Studio - Monday |
|
| Dress for mess and have fun working with clay and other materials to create your own 3-D objects and sculptural masterpieces. Learn different techniques for creating forms, including coil, pinch and modelling methods. Explore surface design and various decoration styles. |

| Painting Pizzazz- Tuesday |
|
| Kids will learn how to explore the many styles, techniques and media involved in painting. Using brushes, utensils, straws and other unconventional items, campers will create examples of both traditional and modern masterpieces. Come ready for mess and full of inspiration! |

| Think and Create Out-of-the-Box - Wednesday |
|
| This full day camp is designed to inspire kids to create artwork using non-traditional techniques, materials and surfaces to create a large scale creation like no other. Perfect for the child who has a limitless imagination and loads of creative energy. |

| Drawing & Design - Thursday |
|
| Drawing and designing are important aspects of creativity, and kids are encouraged to let their imagination run wild! Projects include perspective drawing and visual memory exercises. Kids also learn that a pencil isn't the only tool you can use to draw! |

| Mixed Media & Collage- Friday |
|
|
Inspired by current exhibition, Homage to the Heart, kids will discuss the concept of identity and heritage and create their own mixed media masterpiece using techniques of photo collage and silkscreening.
