2010, Moving Forward!

Our 25th Anniversary celebrations continue in 2010 with many outstanding concert presentations including the highly anticipated new International Series featuring an exclusive recital in Canada by violinist Sarah Chang on Wednesday February 24th, the Lizt Alfonso Dance Cuba on Tuesday March 16th and concludes with Anoushka Shankar on Monday April 12th, 2010. Many of you might ask yourself how the program is set for a season and how we choose the artists. We have been starting to work on the planning process for the 2010-2011 Season programs since last September!

It is actually always a fascinating and exciting process for all staff involved; especially that there is no lack of incredibly gifted artists and superb productions from Canada or abroad. In a nutshell, projects originate from two different channels: those we receive from artists or artists’ agents directly soliciting the Theatre and the others scouted and found through presenters’ networks and performing arts conferences. Many considerations are taken into account, including artistic excellence, marketability, relationship with our audience and program and audience development. And of course, all has to fall into place as a good business decision! We always appreciate our theatre patrons’ suggestions too! One thing for sure, we are much grateful of your participation to the ongoing season and we are eager to continue bringing you the finest entertainment you deserve. As we strive to develop new programs, we need to broaden our base of supporters and we would like to encourage you to joing Markham Theatre's Circle of Stars member program.
