There is a better way, it's simple and doesn't cost nearly as much as building new roads. Using our existing road network more efficiently can significantly reduce traffic congestion. Encouraging more people to carpool, take the bus, and walk or ride bicycles to work even one day a week will make a difference!

Think car lite! This is not about selling your car and buying a bicycle or a new pair of walking shoes. Consider it a variation in your commuting habits. Maybe you ride the bus a few days a week in the winter and when the weather improves try cycling or walking to work.

Transportation Demand Management
The Town of Markham recently opened a Transportation Demand Management (TDM) office to encourage the efficient use of our roadways. TDM is part of the same Department that builds roads but with a very different focus. As a start, we're offering programs to help Town employees discover the alternatives to their single occupant vehicle or SOV commute. In the future these services could be made available to all Markham commuters.
