The Thornhill Community Centre and Library will undergo a major renovation/expansion to meet the increasing demands within this multi-use facility. Library services will be improved with additional study room facilities, an expanded computer lab, an improved children’s area, new self service technologies and a refreshed overall appearance. Renovations to the lower level will provide accessible opportunities for more Seniors programs, dedicated Youth space, as well as an increase in multi-purpose spaces for general programming. |

A unique, outdoor artificial ice surface located at the Markham Civic Centre. The artificial ice surface, approximately 25,000 square feet and the largest in the Greater Toronto Area, will be accompanied with extensive landscaping, washroom facilities and a dedicated building for the ice surfacing machine and refrigeration equipment. |

The new Angus Glen indoor tennis facility adjacent to the Angus Glen Community Centre and Library will comprise 30,800 sq. ft. The new facility will include four tennis courts and a two lane perimeter running track. In addition, a fully accessible 2 storey clubhouse of approximately 3,000 sq. ft. will accompany the tennis structure and will include a viewing gallery, change rooms, washrooms, and a reception area. |

Markham in cooperation with the York District Catholic School Board and St. Robert High School will develop a new full size synthetic turf soccer field and seasonal dome. The project incorporates a year round field house and a seasonal dome to cover 1/3 of the artificial turf field in the winter months. This will facilitate year round opportunities to play soccer for residents of Markham and St. Robert High School students. |

| Emergency Operations Centre |

A permanent, self supporting emergency operations centre (EOC) will be located in Markham. The new EOC will be a state-of-the-art facility with dedicated computers, telecommunications systems, video surveillance, GIS mapping, and a backup, diesel powered generator. |

Markham will implement a number of energy efficiency retrofits at nine Town-owned facilities including lighting retrofits at eight ice arenas. Investments in these retrofits will provide these facilities with new energy efficient features and reduce the Town’s operating energy costs. A number of accessibility features will be incorporated into 10 Town-owned facilities to ensure compliance with building accessibility requirements and to ensure our facilities can be enjoyed by all Markham residents.
