Agricultural Assessment Study |
The Town of Markham has retained a consultant to undertake an Agricultural Assessment Study as a component of the Growth Management Strategy for the Town.
Markham’s Growth Strategy is intended to identify the Town’s goals, objectives, expectations and requirements for infrastructure and financial requirements to support growth based on forecast population and employment growth over the planning period to 2031.
The study area applies to the lands located outside of the current settlement boundary and are generally designated Agriculture in the Town’s Official Plan.
The Agricultural Assessment will seek to accomplish the following:
- Provide base line data and evaluate trends relating to agricultural activity and practices in Markham;
- Assess options for agricultural land use for the Town specifically as it relates to the feasibility of retaining a permanent viable agricultural presence outside of the Greenbelt; and,
- Assess opportunities for sustainable long-term agricultural, rural and recreational uses on the Greenbelt lands in eastern Markham.
