Waste Events Calendar

Stop by our Waste Management booth at these Markham events to speak with staff about how you can achieve Zero Waste, and recycle and compost on the go.

2010

February

Feb. 15

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or organics on Family Day, Monday, February 15, 2010. Collections will be delayed by one day this week for all areas. Please follow your Waste Collection Schedule.

March

Mar.19-21

Markham Spring Homeshow: Visit us at Waste’s Management’s Zero Waste booth. Look for our Special Event Recycling Stations that allow visitors to recycle and compost on the go – just like at home!

Mar. 29

Yard waste collection begins. Yard waste is collected every other week on your regular collection day. Please follow your waste Collection Schedule.

April

Apr. 17

8:00 a.m - 2:00 p.m

Compost Giveaway Day: Help yourself to free compost for your garden! Bring your own containers and shovels. While supplies last. (6 container limit). This event is for Markham residents only. New location this year! Milliken Park located between 4277 and 4299 14th Ave, off of Kennedy Road behind Trillium Montessori School. Signs will be posted.

Apr. 23

20 Minute Makeover: As part of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) initiative involving municipalities, businesses and organizations, the 20-Minute Makeover asks employees, students and citizens to get outside to pick up litter around workplaces, parks, schools and neighbourhoods. Be sure to register your participation and collect your supplies.

May 24

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or organics on Victoria Day, Monday, May 24, 2010. Collections will be delayed by one day this week for all areas. Please follow your Waste Collection Schedule.

June

June 4-6

Visit us at the Waste Management Booth at the Unionville Festival: in front of the Unionville Recycling Depot at Station Lane. Look out for our new Special Event Recycling Stations that allow festival visitors to recycle and compost on the go - just like at home!

June 7-18

Spring No Tag Days begin. Markham has a 3-bag garbage limit. Extra bags of garbage require a garbage tag. On No Tag Days you can place out extra bags of garbage out without the required tags. Extra tags are available at all Markham Recycling Depots. Please follow your waste Collection Schedule for No Tag Days in your area.

June 18

Visit us at the Waste Management Booth at the Markham Village Music Festival: just in front of the Royal Bank. Look out for our new Special Event Recycling Stations that allow festival visitors to recycle on the go - just like at home!

July

July 1

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or organics on Canada Day, Thursday, July 1, 2010. Collections will be delayed by one day this week for Thursday and Friday areas. Please follow your Waste Collection Schedule.

August

Aug. 2

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or organics on Civic Holiday, Monday, August 2, 2010. Collections will be delayed by one day this week for all areas. Please follow your Waste Collection Schedule.

September

Sept. 6

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or organics on Labour Day, Monday, September 6, 2010. Collections will be delayed by one day this week for all areas. Please follow your Waste Collection Schedule.

Sept.13-14

Fall No Tag Days begin. Markham has a 3-bag garbage limit. Extra bags of garbage require a garbage tag. On No Tag Days you can place out extra bags of garbage without the required tags. Extra tags are available at all Markham Recycling Depots. Please follow your waste Collection Schedule for No Tag Days in your area.

Sept. 29 - Oct. 4

Markham Fair: Drop by the Waste Management Booth at the largest four day agricultural fair in Canada. The Fair is an integral part of our community with over 60,000 attendees.

October

Oct. 11

There will be no collection of garbage, recycling, or organics on Thanksgiving Day, Monday, October 11, 2010. Collections will be delayed by one day this week for all areas. Please follow your Waste Collection Schedule.

Oct. 16 Effective in 2010, Markham will be hosting only one Compost Giveaway Event each year. The fall Compost Giveaway Event will not be held in 2010. Please join us at our next Compost Giveaway Event on Saturday, April 16, 2011.

Oct. 22-25

Markham Fall Homeshow: Waste Management's third Zero Waste Homeshow. Look for our recycling and composting bins and visit our Zero Waste display.

November

Nov. 29-30

Yard Material collection ends for Areas 3 and 5. Please follow your waste Collection Schedule.

December

Dec. 1- 10

Yard Material collection ends for Areas 1,2,4,6,7,8,9&10. Please follow your waste Collection Schedule.
