What can be Recycled

Newspapers/Magazines Books
Newspapers/MagazinesIncluding inserts and catalogues. BooksIncluding pamphlets, folders, booklets, telephone directories, soft- and hard-cover books.
   
Household Paper Milk and Juice Cartons
Household PaperIncluding writing paper, computer paper, white envelopes, junkmail and flyers, brown paper bags, brown envelopes and greeting cards. Please remember to recycle paper from your home office. Milk and Juice CartonsIncluding Tetra Pac juice boxes.
Please rinse milk and juice containers.
   
Boxboard All Plastic Containers
BoxboardIncluding boxes from household products like cereal, detergent, shoes and crackers. Please remove plastic film, foil, liner bags and food.

All Plastic ContainersAll plastic containers #1-7. Include plastics such as bakery trays, plastic egg cartons, ice cream, margarine and yogurt tubs and microwavable dinner plastic trays. Please note that polystyrene foam containers (eg. meat trays, coffee cups and egg cartons) are not acceptable.

   
Glass Bottles and Jars All Plastic Bottles
Glass Bottles and JarsRemove the lids and rinse. No lightbulbs, window glass, mirrors or dishes. All Plastic BottlesAll plastic bottles #1-7. Including plastic bottles such as shampoo, lotions, cleaners, windshield washer fluid and other household plastic bottles.
   
Aluminum and Steel Cans All Plastic Jars
Aluminum and Steel CansPlease rinse containers and place lids inside.

All Plastic JarsAll plastic jars #1-7. Include all plastic jars such as peanut butter and honey jars.

   
Empty Metal & Plastic Paint Cans Empty Aerosol Cans
Empty Metal & Plastic Paint CansCans must be empty and dry. Remove lids.

Plastic paint cans cannot be larger than 1 gallon with metal handles removed.

Empty Aerosol CansLids removed. Ensure can is empty. Bring aerosols with product inside to the Hazardous Waste Depot.

   
Corrugated Cardboard Aluminum Foil, Trays & Plates
Corrugated CardboardAll cardboard must be flattened and tied in bundles no larger than 2' x 2' x 1'. Our trucks cannot handle large cardboard pieces. You can dispose of large cardboard items at any of Markham's four Recycling Depots. Do not include any waxed, oily, heavily-soiled, or coated corrugated cardboard.
Aluminum Foil, Trays & PlatesPlease rinse trays and plates.
