Used Fluorescent Bulbs & Tubes

Fluorescent bulbs contain small amounts of mercury and should never be thrown out with curbside garbage. Fluorescent Bulbs & Tubes
Require Proper Disposal!

Fluorescent light bulbs have become a popular alternative to traditional incandescent bulbs because they save energy and last longer; however, they contain a small amount of mercury and therefore should never be thrown out with your curbside garbage.

Take your fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs to Markham recycling depots.

Markham uses the services of Aevitas Inc. to properly dispose of and recycle spent fluorescent bulbs and tubes.

How fluorescent bulbs & tubes recycled

  • The tubes are processed by separating each lamp into its individual components making each component clean and eligible for reuse.

  • The lamps are crushed and separated into four waste streams; aluminum end caps, brass, glass and mercury rich phosphor powder.

  • Each of these components is cleaned and forwarded from the processing plant in Cambridge, ON, to a recycling end market where they are used in other products.

  • Over 98% of each lamp is recycled and diverted from landfill!
