Portable Propane Cylinder Recycling |
You Can Now Recycle Portable Propane Cylinders at Markham's Recycling Depots
The new "Green Key" allows us to recycle small, portable propane cylinders, normally classified as hazardous waste, as scrap metal at our recycling depots.
Pick up the Green Key tool, free of charge, at any of Markham's four recycling depots.
How it works
- Use cylinder as directed for normal use until completely empty.
- Insert the Green Key into valve at the top of the empty cylinder to release leftover pressure.
- Do not remove key from cylinder.
- Bring empty cylinder, with Green Key inserted, to any of Markham's four recycling depots.
- Check in with the Depot Attendant before placing empty cylinder in the scrap metal bin.
Please note
- Cylinders must be completely vented before being taken to the depots.
- Cylinders that are not completely empty (still containing propane) must be taken to the Hazardous Waste Depot located south of Miller Avenue on Rodick Road.
