Official Markham Torchbearer

Cody Hodgson

Cody Hodgson, member of the 2009 Canadian World Junior Hockey Team, has been named as Markham’s community torchbearer for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Torch Relay. The 19-year-old Markham resident led the scoring in the 2009 World Junior Hockey Tournament, helping Team Canada win its fifth straight gold medal. He attended Unionville High School and played for the Markham Waxers hockey team for several years. He is currently a member of the Ontario Hockey League’s Brampton Battalion and in 2008, was drafted into the National Hockey League by the Vancouver Canucks. Cody will have the honour of lighting the cauldron at Markham’s community celebration on Thursday, December 17, 2009.
