The City of Markham wants to make sure everyone can easily use its buildings, services, programs, and information. Accessibility helps people of all abilities take part in and enjoy everything the City offers.
The City follows the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005 (AODA) and its regulations. These laws help make sure our buildings, programs, services, and information are accessible and easy for everyone to use.

The City of Markham’s Statement of Commitment
Markham is committed to ensuring all residents have full and equal access to its programs, services, facilities and information. Accessibility makes it possible for people of all abilities to take advantage of everything Markham has to offer.
The City of Markham is committed to making its programs, services and facilities accessible to people with disabilities in compliance with the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA), 2005 and the Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2001.
The City takes its obligations under the AODA seriously and commits to meeting the requirements to ensure that City programs, services, and facilities are accessible to all.
Accessibility Policy
This policy explains how the City of Markham follows Ontario's accessibility laws. It outlines the steps we take to make our services, programs, and buildings easier to access and use for people with disabilities.
These rules support our duties under the Ontario Human Rights Code. Together, they help ensure everyone is treated fairly and included.
The City of Markham’s Multi-Year Accessibility Plan 2025-2029
The Multi-Year Accessibility Plan explains what the City of Markham will do from 2025 to 2029 to meet the rules in Ontario’s accessibility laws and to improve accessibility across the City.
We created the plan by listening to employees, community members, people with disabilities, and the Markham Accessibility Advisory Committee. The plan guides our goals and supports our reporting that shows our progress.
Markham Accessibility Advisory Committee
The Markham Accessibility Advisory Committee is made up of volunteers chosen by City Council and required by Ontario’s accessibility laws.
Most people on the committee live with disabilities and use their real-life experience to give advice about how to make the City’s programs, services and facilities more accessible.

Accessibility Compliance Reports
These reports explain how the City of Markham meets Ontario’s accessibility rules.
The reports show how we remove barriers to accessibility in the City’s services and facilities.
Accessibility Status Reports
These reports explain how the City of Markham is working each year to make sure people with disabilities can access and use City services, programs, buildings, information, public spaces, and jobs.
The reports describe the steps taken to find barriers, remove them, and stop new barriers from being created. This helps people with disabilities take part fully in the community.
The reports also include feedback from City staff and the Markham Accessibility Advisory Committee. They show how the City is meeting, and often going beyond, the accessibility rules set out in Ontario's Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA).
Also, the reports track the City's progress on its Multi-Year Accessibility Plan and show how Markham is improving accessibility for everyone.
