Markham's Commemorative Tree Planting partnership provides a creative and lasting way for individual residents, families, businesses, schools and community groups to honour friends and family or to celebrate special events. Your tree will serve as a living tribute for generations to come.

Celebrate Life! Place a bench or plant a tree for the future!

In consultation with parks staff, you can specify in which park you would like to have your bench placed or the tree planted, as well as make suggestions for the type of tree desired.

The Town provides a six foot long bench made of recycled plastic or a 50 to 60 mm diameter (trunk size) tree as well as a commemorative certificate and a map of the park at a cost of $250.00.

If you would like a plaque on your bench, there is an extra cost of approximately $100.00, which is paid directly to a local sign company.  Town staff will assist you in the ordering of this plaque.

Applications received by March 1st will be implemented in the Spring and the applications received by July 1st will be done in the Fall.  Many native trees such as Maples and Oaks require spring planting. The Town will provide maintenance for 1 year, however cannot guarantee its long term survival.

Upon completion of your application, please enclose a cheque or money order made payable to, "Treasurer, Town of Markham".

Commemorative Tree Planting  

The Town will plant a mutually agreed upon, standard-sized tree in a park and provide you with a commemorative certificate for a fee of $250.00. We will also provide regularly scheduled maintenance to the tree and surrounding area.

When choosing the date of planting or type of tree to be planted, it is important to note that applications received by March 31st will be planted in the Spring and applications received by July 31st will be planted in the Fall. Many native trees such as Maples and Oaks require spring planting.

Commemorative Benches  

Commemorative benches are available from the Town for $250. The bench is made of recycled plastic.

The donor's plaque can be installed for an additional $100 approximately. Plaque wording and bench location are subject to Town approval.
