Markham Water Quality Annual Report

January 1, 2012 to December 31, 2012

The City of Markham collects and tests water samples at 104 locations throughout the distribution system in compliance with the Ontario Drinking Water Systems Regulation. Sampling is rotated through these locations and tested rigorously for Chlorine Residual, Bacteria, Trihalomethanes, Nitrites & Nitrates, Lead, Organics & Inorganics in compliance with Ontario Regulation 170/03. The samples are collected by licensed City operators and analyzed by the provincially approved York-Durham Regional Environmental Laboratory.

The City reports any adverse sampling results to the York Region Medical Officer of Health and the Ministry of Environment (MOE) and immediately undertakes the necessary corrective actions to rectify the situation.

The drinking water distributed to Markham residents in 2012 was of high quality and has met all health-related Ontario Drinking Water Standards.
