Mayor Frank Scarpitti was first elected Mayor of the City of Markham in 2006 for a four year term and in October of 2010 was re-elected for a subsequent four year term. He serves on York Region Council. He was first elected as Regional Councillor in 1985, and was re-elected seven times. At the Region, Mayor Scarpitti serves as Chair of the Police Services Board. He served as Chair of the Planning and Economic Development Committee and is currently a member of the Finance and Administration Committee, the York Region Rapid Transit Corporation and the Yonge Subway Advisory Task Force.
Mayor Scarpitti is Chair of PowerStream, serves on the Markham Stouffville Hospital Board and is a former member of the Markham Theatre Board and the Rouge Park Alliance. Mayor Scarpitti was Chair of Markham's Olympic Torch Relay celebration, Honourary Chair of Markham Miracle: Helping Build Haiti’s Future and Honourary Chair of the Markham Rising Sun Campaign: Standing with Japan. He is the Co-Chair of the Capital Campaign for the Markham Stouffville Hospital Expansion.
Mayor Scarpitti lives in Markham with his wife Nancy and their three children. He has been a Markham resident for 47 years.

Regional Councillor Joe Li was elected to Markham Council in 2010. He is the first Hakka Chinese from India elected to hold public office in Canada and the first Council member with Indian background in Markham and the Region of York.
Born and raised in Calcutta, Mr. Li has a keen interest in strengthening relationships between India and Markham, especially in his current capacity as Regional Councillor. This is his second trade mission to India as an elected official. He has also participated in Pravasi Bharatiya Divas events in the past.
Before beginning his political career in 2010, Mr. Li served as the Vice-President of the Board of South Asians in Ontario and the President of the Yin Hua (Chinese from India) Association of Ontario.
Mr. Li is a Chartered Financial Consultant and a Chartered Life Underwriter by profession. He has been in the financial planning industry for over 23 years. After graduating from high school in India, he has spent 9 years in Sweden before immigrating to Canada in 1984.
In addition to Hindi/Urdu, Mr. Li is also conversant in English, Swedish and various Chinese dialects including Hakka, Cantonese and Mandarin.

Councillor Logan Kanapathi made headlines in November 2006 when he was the first Canadian Tamil to be elected to political office. As quoted by the Toronto Star, he was “a new face for a new era.” Re-elected in 2010 and serving his second term as Councillor for Ward 7, Councillor Kanapathi continues to champion for greater diversity. He has represented Council on Markham's Race Relations Committee for two consecutive terms and is Markham's official appointed UNESCO-CMARD (Coalition of Municipalities Against Racism and Discrimination) Council representative. His passion for diversity is also actively witnessed as he continues to play a leading role in York Region’s Police Uniform Recruiting Committee.
His strong leadership in South Asian affairs has been demonstrated by initiating and getting Council proclamations for several South Asian Festivals in the City of Markham. Under his leadership Markham was the first government in North America to recognize Tamil Heritage Days and Thai Pongal, Diwali Celebrations. Councillor Kanapathi is the Founding Chair of the annual Markham South Asian Festival.
As Vice Chair of the Budget Committee, Councillor Kanapathi is a staunch advocate for fiscal responsibility and maintaining Markhams low tax rates.

Christina has been Manager, Special Projects with the City of Markham since April 2007 following eight years with the City of Toronto. During her tenure at the City of Toronto, Christina held senior roles in investment attraction, business development, policy development, and marketing.
Christina was the project manager for the Markham Convergence Centre leading to its successful launch in November 2010. Christina's current responsibilities include: promoting Markham internationally to attract foreign direct investment and encourage trade; collaborating with industry, academic and other partners including ventureLAB and York University to build the commercialization capacity of the Markham Convergence Centre; connecting the design industry with manufacturers in Markham to enhance the competitiveness of local products and services internationally; and working with industry, government and academic partners to expand our competitive strengths in the convergence of Information/Communications Technology and Life Sciences.

David Agnew became President of Seneca College in 2009, bringing senior leadership experience in the public, private and non-profit sectors to one of the largest colleges in Canada.
Prior to joining Seneca, Mr. Agnew served as Principal Secretary to the Premier of Ontario and Secretary to the Cabinet. Dr. George M. Arnold graduated from Medical School at the University of Toronto in 1986 and is a licensed physician in the Province of Ontario. Dr. Arnold became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada with a Specialist Certificate in Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1992. Dr. Arnold has been on staff at Markham Stouffville Hospital since 1992 and in 1999 was appointed Chief of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Since 2003, Dr. Arnold has served on various committees at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. In 2011, he was appointed to the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Toronto as a lecturer. Dr. Arnold was recently appointed Chair, Health Professional Advisory Committee for the Central Local Health Integrated Network.
