To achieve a sustainable transportation network Markham Centre has developed Transportation Performance Measures using the principles of sustainable development. The measures promote a balanced transportation system that accommodates all modes of travel. The five component areas of the transportation performance measures include: Roads, Transit, Biking, Walking, and Transportation Demand Management. Markham Centre sets out to promote non-automobile based forms of transportation. In Markham Centre, the pedestrian will gain equality with the automobile. Well defined street, architectural design, parks and trails will create a "walkable" downtown.
