  • Markham Centre is planned as Markham's new downtown core, based on the principles of New Urbanism and Smart Growth.

  • The Centre is located on more than 900 acres of largely undeveloped land in the geographic heart of Markham.

  • Markham Centre is bordered by Highway 407 to the south; Kennedy Road to the east; Highway 7 to the north and Rodick Road to the West. Boundaries are approximate-see map.

  • The key to the Markham Centre vision is the development and implementation of a rapid-transit system to move people to and throughout the downtown core.

Built around a 10-acre urban park, to include nearly 4,000 apartments and townhouse units and 515,000 square feet of commercial space. Phase 1 construction began in 2007.

  • Markham's population is predicted to grow to 281,000 in 2011, from 223,000 in January 2002.
