How to Apply for Employment and Volunteer Opportunties

How & Where to Apply Online: 

Please submit all résumés and applications online using our Application Tracking System. This will ensure your application gets full consideration for each job to which you apply. You will also be able to update your existing online application, contact information, and apply for other job opportunities at any time.

The Application Tracking System links you to the Town of Markham's current job postings and allows you to submit your application directly with the click of a button. It also gives you the flexibility to submit a general resume/application for future consideration under the General Employment Inquiry option.

All resumes submitted to our system are maintained on file for a period of three (3) months. They are reviewed continuously as vacancies become available.

For your convenience and to ensure proper receipt of your application, please avoid mailing, e-mailing, faxing, or dropping off your resume to the Human Resources department.

DO YOU QUALIFY FOR THE POSITION  

Please review your education, training, experience, skills, abilities and knowledge before you apply, to ensure that you meet the qualification standards or acceptable equivalents which are recognized for many positions.

You must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada (as defined by Citizenship & Immigration Canada) to be eligible to apply. Some individuals (e.g. foreign students) may have authorization from the Government of Canada to work here on a time limited basis. If you have this authorization you are only eligible for employment if the length and location of the appointment and the nature of the work meets the conditions specified in your authorization documents.

APPLYING FOR A JOB 

Whether you're applying in reference to a specific job posting, for the Unsolicited Pool, or Summer Students opportunities these tips may prove helpful:

  • Be sure to complete all sections of the application form for the position you are interested in.
  • Describe any previous related work and/or volunteer experience.
  • Please acknowledge relevant awards and certifications.
  • A current, approved first-aid certificate and/or equivalent is a condition of employment for most Recreation positions.
