As your new Ward 4 Councillor, it has been an exciting and challenging few months in my new position. I made commitments during the campaign which I am happy to announce that all of the items have been introduced to Council and are underway to be completed. There are still many items that were brought to my attention during the summer and fall which I am now starting to work through.
The City is in the process of hiring an auditor general and this should be completed by the fall.
The petition to keep Morgan Park baseball diamond has been submitted and I have asked staff to bring back new drawings that include the diamond and pool. More public consultation will be held in the fall for the revitalization of this historic landmark of old Markham Village.
We are having a work shop regarding the expansion of the boundaries for notices to be sent out for Committee of Adjustments and zoning changes and to provide more notice to residents of the applications.
The first of the Arena reports has been released and is available on my website for viewing www.karenrea.ca.
Exciting news is that Markham will be the new home of the York University satellite campus and that Parks Canada announced that 4722 acres of the federal lands have been officially transferred by Transport Canada to Parks Canada for the Rouge National Urban Park.
In addition to the bi-yearly mailing of a newsletter, I send out an e-newsletter every other month. If you would like to be included and kept up to date on what is going on around Markham, please email Rose, my Executive Assistant firstname.lastname@example.org, to be included on our email list. I wish everyone a safe and wonderful summer.
