Markham Council champions seven priorities as part of Building Markham’s Future Together, our long-term strategic plan. Through our Click with Markham campaign, we asked residents, local businesses, and other interested parties to share their thoughts on Markham’s future direction. Seven strategic priorities were identified through this campaign and we have since developed a number of action plans to support those priorities.
Since 2009, Markham has added dozens of new roads and bridges; built new leisure, recreation and sports facilities; offered new and expanded municipal services; and improved the accessibility and energy efficiency of our buildings. We achieved all this during one of the most challenging economic periods in history, with a 0% tax rate increase in 2009, 2010, and 2011, and a modest 1.5% tax rate increase in 2012 and 2013.
A community sustainability plan, the Green Print, guides our efforts around implementing the specific action plans for each strategic priority. This process will helps meet the demands of a growing community in an economically, socially and environmentally sustainable way.
