City of Markham Rental Facilities

When planning your function, you should know these things...

Set-up and take down charges
The cost for set-up and take down is included in the rental rates for most facilities. Setup requests must be made 14 days prior to the event.

Mandatory Insurance Coverage for all Facility Rentals

The City of Markham requires that all persons or companies renting City facilities must have insurance coverage with the following attributes:

• Two million dollars of commercial general liability insurance
• Name the Corporation of the City of Markham as an additional insured
• Include full participant coverage  

Alcohol permits and liability insurance
For any event where alcohol is involved, a Special Occasion Permit from AGCO (Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario) must be obtained. The permit must be posted in the facility during your function. All Special Occasion Permit holders must purchase or provide proof that they have a minimum of $2,000,000 of liquor liability insurance in addition to the mandatory insurance coverage as noted above for events. The City of Markham must be named as additional insured under the insurance policy. The policy must include full participant coverage.

Insurance may be available to clients, who cannot provide insurance through their residential or commercial insurance polity, please check with the City’s Customer Service Representative. Proof of insurance must be provided to the Customer Service Representative a minimum of 14 days prior to the event.

Rental rates
Rental rates for meeting rooms and halls vary by size and facility. Ice and pool rates are standardized across the city. For more information on rental rates, please contact the individual facility.

Payment guidelines
In general, charges and fees for renting a facility may be paid for by cash, cheque or credit card. A 50% deposit is required to confirm the function. The balance of all charges is due 30 days in advance of the date of the rental. Failure to make this full and final payment may result in cancellation of the rental. Payments guidelines for the Markham Theatre, Markham Museum and Varley Art Gallery may differ.

Smoke-free bylaw
Bylaw No. A-0285-2000-105. Markham facilities are designated as smoke-free areas.

Markham has ten ice pads throughout the City that are available year-around for various functions. Rental opportunities are available for ice-related events or dry pad events. For arena information, please call:
