Positions and duties
(A) Sunday Supervisor: Masters Degree in Library Science or equivalent from an ALA accredited faculty of Library / Information Science. Minimum of five (5) years of related library experience. Strong demonstrated interpersonal skills and leadership capabilities. Strong demonstrated commitment to the delivery of quality customer service to both external and internal customers. Demonstrated successful supervisory experience and skills. Demonstrated ability to coach and motivate staff. Demonstrated ability to exercise effective and appropriate judgment and independent decision-making. Excellent oral and written communications skills.
Reporting to the Branch Manager, the Sunday Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of the branch on Sundays, directing the work of branch personnel and handling of customer and staff inquiries. The position monitors the performance of staff, verifies timesheets and reports to the branch manager on the status of Sunday activities. The Sunday Supervisor supervises, coaches, mentors and appraises the performance of Sunday staff. Ensures appropriate and timely opening and closing of the Library. Deals effectively with all customer issues. Ensures overall Sunday service provision by working as required at any service point in the Library. Effectively records and communicates issues, concerns and observations to the Branch Manager and/or weekday staff as appropriate.
(B) Library Services Associate: Undergraduate post-secondary degree from an accredited Canadian university program or an educational equivalent acceptable to the employer. Demonstrated success in the delivery of customer service with a minimum of one year experience in a direct service position. Exceptional proactive customer service skills. Demonstrated problem solving abilities. Ability to apply good judgment and willingness to take initiative to create customer service solutions. Excellent communication skills, with demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with a culturally diverse clientele. Ability to communicate with tact and to resolve conflict positively and effectively. Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Outlook, IE and electronic databases. Experience with Library automated systems an asset. Ability to work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
The Library Services Associate (LSA) is responsible for achieving customer service excellence. The LSAs deliver direct support to MPL’s diverse customer base. They are proactive in anticipating and meeting customer needs, looking for opportunities to surpass expectations and create the best possible library experience. The LSAs ensure customers are treated with respect and care, and are supported in achieving the information needs.
LSAs develop relationships with library customers by providing seamless service. They support their customers through all parts of their library visit, from providing a warm welcome to the branch, to assisting with all information requests to assisting customers through the checkout process. They are highly knowledgeable of MPL and its services, and serve as excellent resources for community information.
The LSAs are proficient problem-solvers and develop creative solutions to common customer service issues. They support the library’s vision and strategic plan by actively implementing and maintaining the library’s service program. They are approachable, friendly service professionals who approach their work with enthusiasm and are customer-centric in their orientation.
(C) Borrower Services Clerk: Canadian high school graduation diploma or equivalent and experience working in a customer service or related environment.
The Sunday Borrower Services Clerk has dual critical responsibilities: they provide excellent customer service and effective material processing. The Sunday Clerk maintains standards for efficiency when processing library materials and completing all other behind the scenes customer service functions related to material processing. They complete their work quickly, accurately and as a member of the Borrower Services team.
The Sunday Clerks also have excellent customer service skills and assist customers effectively with their account and borrowing needs. The clerks maintain the high quality of MPL’s Customer Service Standards. They are responsible for resolving customer issues at the first point of contact and ensuring customers have an excellent service experience.
