Go to the Library Catalogue
Use the catalogue to explore MPL's collections. You can search the entire collection or search for newly arrived books, DVDs and music. The catalogue also allows you to add your own comments or reviews to items in our collection or create lists of your favourite titles and to share them with other library users. You can receive recommendations from other library users who share the same reading, listening or viewing interests as you.
Getting Started
The first time you visit our catalogue you need to log in and create an account. The log in prompt is on the top right of the page. To log in you need to enter your library card and PIN. You will then be prompted to create a new account. View a video that takes you through the steps to creating your account.
- Your user name is a unique name that protects your identity. It appears on any comments, reviews or lists that you create. The best user name is one that's easy to remember and that doesn't contain any personal information such as your library card number or last name.
- Create a 4 digit numeric password. The password you create for your account also provides access to MPL’s eBook collection and to MPL’s research databases. If you choose a password that is alpha-numeric (a combination of letters and numbers) you will not be able to access other areas of MPL’s website.
- Entering an email address allows you to receive messages from MPL such as notification of holds and library news. If you wish to receive Library notices by email please let staff know and they will update your account preferences.
- Once you've accepted the Terms of Use and clicked "Register" you're ready to begin using the catalogue.
Why do I need to set up an account?
You can search the catalogue without setting up an account - but you'll be missing out on the enhanced features. You'll also need to set up an account in order to place holds or check your record (for example, the due dates of items you've checked out). A user name allows you to create an easy to remember log in so you don't have to type in your library barcode number each time you visit. Once you've registered your account you can log in using either your user name or your library card number.
