Digital eBooks and videos

You can borrow popular fiction and non-fiction eBooks and eAudiobooks free with your library card. 

Downloadable eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMovies may be borrowed to enjoy on your computer, or compatible eReader, PDA or mobile device.   Online eBooks and eAudiobooks are enjoyed online on your computer over the internet.

 

OverDrive

Markham Public Library has a growing collection of eBooks and eAudiobooks that can be borrowed for reading on your eReader, ipad, tablet, smartphone or other compatible device.  MPL’s OverDrive collection includes popular fiction and non-fiction titles as well as downloadable video documentaries, biographies and film classics.

To download books from MPL’s eBook collection through OverDrive you need:

  • A library card
  • An internet connection
  • Free Adobe Digital Editions  installed on your computer.  This allows you to download and transfer EPUB format eBooks to your eReader. 

You may borrow up to 10 titles.  Downloaded items are automatically returned to the library at the end of the borrowing period.

Ebscohost (NetLibrary)

eAudibooks and eBooks from NetLibrary are now available through EbscoHost.  Check out requires a library card and registration for a free account with Ebscohost.  eBooks are available in an ePub format and require installation of Adobe Digital Editions.  eAudiobooks may be played on your computer or downloaded to a portable device supporting Windows Media Player (WMP)

AudioBookCloud

    An online collection of streaming audiobooks including classics, fiction and non-fiction for adult, children and teens.  No checkout necessary – just start reading.

TumbleBooks  

    
Tumblebooks are online, interactive books for children.  The TumbleBook Library is a collection of animated, talking picture books that are created by taking existing picture books, adding animation, sound, music and narration to produce an electronic picture book which you can read, or have read to you.  

Project Gutenberg 

    Project Gutenberg is a volunteer  effort to digitize and archive classics and reference books that are in the public domain.     

 

For the complete selection of digital content available through Markham Public Library log on to MPL's online databases .  Log in with your library card and PIN and then select eBooks/eAudiobooks from the list of subject categories.   

Trouble logging in?  Logging into the online databases requires your library card number, not your username if you’ve created on online library  account.   Your PIN must be all numbers.  If you changed your PIN so that it’s letters or a combination of numbers and letters you’ll need to reset it through “My Account”
