History
The Pan/Parapan American Games are the world’s third largest international multi-sports events, held every four years for athletes of the 41 member nations of the Pan American Sport Organization (PASO). The first Pan American Games were held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1951 and the inaugural Parapan American Games were held in Mexico City in 1999. The Games comprise a mix of Summer Olympic Games sports, as well as traditional Pan American sports. While the Pan American Games have been hosted in a dozen countries throughout the Americas, Canada has had the honour of hosting them three times; in 1967 and 1999 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and in Toronto in 2015.
