About Doors Open

Every year since 2003, Doors Open Markham has brought together thousands of people within the community to celebrate Markham’s rich history. Doors Open Markham is a free, annual community-wide event that showcases Markham's places of historical and cultural interest: featuring locations that are not generally open to the public. It provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to explore the City's unique and sometimes hidden architectural treasures.

Doors Open Markham is organized under the direction of a Council-appointed committee of City staff, municipal councilors, and community volunteers. This event is one of a series of Doors Open events held across the province under the organizational umbrella of the Ontario Heritage Trust - Doors Open Ontario.

You can find the list of active committee members as well as the charter Here. Committee members are chosen through an interview process by the City, and interested members are encourage to apply Here. Doors Open Markham always welcome non-committee civic members to participate in these sub-committees: Sites, Promotions and Volunteer.

Ontario Heritage Trust 2018 theme for Doors Open Ontario is “Towards a Fair and Just Society.”
