Markham Sports Day is a one-day event that celebrates the power of sport, builds community, fortifies our national spirit while facilitating healthy, active living and helps us GET OUT & GET ACITVE! This is a great day for families to participate and watch a variety of sports for all ages. Come join the fun!

Badminton Tournaments - In partnership with: Federation of Badminton Clubs 

Youth Recreational Tournaments – Doubles and Mix Partners
Calling all Youth! Enjoy a day filled with fun, exercise and a great opportunity to make new friends.

Time: 9 AM – 12 PM
Location: Gymnasium
Cost: $10 for one event or $15 for both events
Age: U14 and U18
Registration Deadline: Register online by November 19 at 8:30 am.

Participants must bring their own racquet. Plastic birds will be provided. No players of Ontario Level B or above permitted.

Open Team Adult Tournament
Gather your friends and register for a fun and exciting day. This is a great opportunity to polish your skills and play against other competitive participants.

Time: 12:00 PM – 5:00 PM
Location: Gymnasium
Cost: $150 per team (maximum of six to eight players)
Age: 19 years and older
Registration Deadline: Register online by November 6, 2016

Winners will receive a cash prize! Equipment not provided. Each team should bring their own racquets and tournament-grade feather birds. At least two ties guaranteed (each tie against another team 2MD, 2MX, 1LD). Each player should play at least one match, but no more than two per tie.

Floorball Clinic & Team Canada Practice - In partnership with: Canadian Women's Floorball Team 

Learn to Play Floorball with the Canadian Women's Floorball Team – Drop in
Learn to play a new sport with Team Canada and have fun with other players. Join the fun and play with Team Canada!  

Time: 12 PM – 2 PM
Location: Outdoors
Cost: FREE
Age: All ages
Registration Deadline: This is a drop-in activity. No registration necessary.

Basic equipment will be provided.

Time: 3 PM – 4:30 PM

Lifesaving Sport Event - Facilitated by: City of Markham's Lifesaving Club of Markham program  

Regional Junior Lifesaving Event
Come see lifesaving clubs from across the province as they compete in a variety of events like Obstacle Swim, Obstacle Relay, Lifesaving Medley, Lifesaving Medley Relay, Swim with Fins, and Object Relay!

Time: Warm up @ 11 AM; Heats begin @ 12:15 PM

Participants must be a member of a lifesaving club. Individual registrations will not be accepted. Members of the public are invited as spectators only.

Physical Literacy Activities - Facilitated by: City of Markham's Markham in Motion program 

Throughout the day, participants of all ages are invited to explore and expand their Physical Literacy by practicing their hopping, skipping, throwing, catching and jumping skills with the Markham in Motion street team!  Learning these Fundamental Movement skills at a young age helps children gain confidence and motivates them to lead healthier active lives as they grow up. Physical Literacy is as important as ABCs, 123s and do-re-mi’s!

Table Tennis Tournament & Camp - In partnership with: Table Tennis Canada 

Recreational Mini Table Tennis Tournament
Come watch a friendly youth tournament.  This activity is meant to be fun for all, scores will be kept and a champion will be crowned.

Time: 3 PM – 5 PM
Location: Warm-up Hall
Cost: FREE
Age: 15 years and under
Registration Deadline: Register online or by 2:30 PM on-site at the event.

Equipment will be provided. Participants will play one game each to 11 points.  A maximum of 64 participants can be registered for this singles knockout tournament.

Table Tennis Camp – Drop in
Learn to play Table Tennis from the pros at one of Canada’s premier athletic training facilities, and the home of Table Tennis Canada. The training sessions will focus on proper basic techniques, service and game tactics, while having fun and incorporating some light physical activity.

Age: 15 years and under

Get aurographs signed by former NHL player Bobby "Boomer" Baun and Paralympics athlete Marissa Papaconstantinou following the Official Welcome at noon.

Don't Miss the Invictus Games Street Team!

The Invictus Games Toronto 2017 Street Team will be on-site to raise awareness about the games and the historical and modern-day contributions of our Canadian Armed Forces, the importance of adaptive sport in the rehabilitation of wounded, ill and injured service members and veterans, and the unique challenges our military families face.

Don’t miss their mascot VIMY! He’ll be around and available for selfies throughout the day! #MarkhamSportsDay

 

 

 

 

Soccer Equipment Donation Drive

Bring us your new or gently used soccer equipment. We are looking specifically for soccer shoes and shin pads. All sizes are welcome!  Items donated on Markham Sports Day are in support of Eabametoong First Nation, also known as Fort Hope, an Ojibway First Nation in the Kenora District in Ontario.

The City of Markham and Eabametoong First Nation partnership and collaboration creates opportunities to foster optimism for the future through youth engagement in skill development, volunteerism, sport, and leadership.

Drop-off bin will be located in the front lobby.
