Police Vulnerable Sector Check

Police Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC)

You will need a Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC), also called a Vulnerable Sector Screening (VSS) or Criminal Records Check to volunteer at the City of Markham. Once you submit your VSC, as indicated below, we will update your account with a two year expiry from the date on the VSC.

Obtain your VSC

York Region Residents:

Follow the instructions on the YRP website. If you are under 18 years old, you must go in person to apply and pick up your VSC.

Adults may go in person, or apply at: https://event.yrp.ca/OnlineClearance/PVSC_Main.aspx

Take two pieces of valid identification (passport, birth certificate, Government ID card, citizenship, boating/fishing license) to the YRP Community Resource Centre,  along with a reference letter from the City of Markham. Your identification must confirm your name, birth date and address. One piece of identification must have your photo. Acceptable identifications are listed at: https://www.yrp.ca/en/services/Vulnerable-Sector-Check.asp

Youth may bring student transcripts, pay stubs or, if under 15, a parent driver’s license. Health Cards and SIN cards are not accepted.

A reference letter can be obtained by sending a request by email to volunteering@markham.ca with your full, LEGAL name and full address.

YRP will charge a $60 application fee. However, the fee will be discounted to $30 if you have the reference letter.

YRP Community Resource Centre is at 10720 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, open Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm, Saturdays 8am to 4pm. 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7655

For any additional clarification, please contact the police resource centre.

Living Outside of York Region:

Email us your full, legal name and city of residence and we will provide instructions to complete your local Police Department's VSS or VSC requirements (letter and application form).
