How much water do you use?
On average, a Markham resident uses 189 litres of water per day, (that’s enough to fill a bath tub with!) while residents in countries with similar lifestyles, like Austria (135 litres) and Germany (122 litres), use much less.
Population growth in our region means increased pressure on our water resources and infrastructure. York Region has adopted a goal of 150 litres per person, per day for residential water use. With careful planning and use of water efficient appliances, we can achieve this goal. See York Region’s Water for Tomorrow
website for more information on our regional water conservation plan.
Small adjustments in your home and habits can result in water savings. People across the country are using less water simply by fixing leaks, installing efficient appliances and fixtures and creating water efficient landscapes around their homes. York Region’s publication Water Efficiency: An At Home Guide
offers many ways to become more water efficient.
