Junior Performing Arts Camp/Performing Arts Camp

For kids 6 to 9 years old and 10 to 13 years old
The Theatre comes to your neighbourhood with this weekly performing arts camp. Focused on age-appropriate skill development in acting, singing and dance, campers will get a chance to explore strengths and try something new. Every week of camp will be different with a special guest artist who will visit camp to run workshops for one afternoon.  Campers will have new experiences all summer long! Taking place at the brand-new Cornerstone Centre, Performing Arts Camps are directed and facilitated by an experienced arts professional, and are a terrific complement to the popular Theatre camps at the Flato Markham Theatre.

Drama Camp

For kids 10 to 12 years old
An exciting educational opportunity for youth to learn performing arts skills in a completely inclusive, fun and friendly environment.  Throughout the two-week session, campers work together to rehearse an age-appropriate Musical Play that has been specially written so that every camper can explore and develop their unique talents in acting, singing and dancing. This experience matches a professional theatre performance in every sense. Every camper will be responsible to learn his or her lines, cues, blocking, songs, and choreography. On a daily basis, a variety of theatre techniques are explored, such as improvisation, puppetry, dramatic movement, and more.

This is an incredible developmental opportunity for building confidence, sense of self, speech, presentation and artistic skills. Staff are lead by experienced arts educators with years of professional performing experience.

Drama Summer Camp takes place at the Flato Markham Theatre and culminates with a live, fully staged show created on the prestigious stage of the Flato Markham Theatre on the second Thursday night of each session. Two plays will be performed during the summer. The 1st and 3rd sessions of the summer will employ the same script, as will the 2nd and 4th sessions.

Actors Workshop

For kids 13 years or older
The Actors Workshop is designed to give aspiring actors the opportunity hone their talents and build up their stage experience – no experience necessary.  Performance skills aren’t not just for the stage, but can benefit young adults in all aspects of their lives: speech, confidence, presentation skills and building a sense of self.

Throughout the two-week session Actors Workshop campers will take part in all aspects of a theatrical production.  All performers are responsible for learning their lines, cues, blocking, songs, and choreography. Actor’s workshop campers are also encouraged to take on some leadership roles in areas where they are comfortable; be it helping with creating props and sets, or backstage. On a daily basis, a variety of theatre techniques are explored, such as improvisation, puppetry, accents, stage combat, dramatic movement, script and character analysis, and more.

Actors Workshop students are given an additional opportunity to create their own piece, to be performed on the final day of camp for their fellow campers. This is done with the help if the experienced staff, and could include a monologue, scene, song, dance, or other.

Actors Workshop Summer Camp takes place at the Flato Markham Theatre and culminates with a live, fully staged show created on the prestigious stage of the Flato Markham Theatre on the second Thursday night of each session.  Two plays will be performed during the summer. The 1st and 3rd sessions of the summer will employ the same script, as will the 2nd and 4th sessions.
