About Doors Open

  • Doors Open Markham is an annual community-wide event that showcases Markham’s places of historical and cultural interest – featuring locations that are not generally open to the public.
  • Doors Open Markham is a celebration of community heritage and culture. It provides residents and visitors with an opportunity to explore, on this one special day, the City’s unique and sometimes hidden architectural treasures, many of which are not normally open to the general public.
  • Doors Open Markham is organized under the direction of a Council-appointed committee of City staff, municipal councillors, and community volunteers. This event is one of a series of Doors Open events held across the province under the organizational umbrella of the Ontario Heritage Trust – Doors Open Ontario.
  • Markham held its first Doors Open in 2003, and since that time, Doors Open has been an annual City-wide event. Doors Open Markham is supported by the City of Markham, community partners and local businesses.  It’s a free event that draws visitors locally and from other places.
  • Since 2013, Doors Open Markham has been held in late September, and is a one-day event hosted by community volunteers.
