Markham is home to community and allotment gardens across the city, for residents who want more growing space!
Community gardens are spaces governed by a community group, where growing, cleaning, maintenance and harvesting is done collaboratively. Allotment gardens are owned by the city, and residents can lease plots of land from the city for a set fee. Currently the city owns one allotment garden: The Kirkham Allotment Garden in Ward 7.
The city’s wealth of community and allotment gardens is supported by the food security priority of the Greenprint – Markham’s Community Sustainability Plan [PDF].
*The Kirkham Allotment Garden is CLOSED for the 2020 growing season. Please contact sustainability@markham.ca to be added to the 2021 waitlist.
The Kirkham Allotment Garden is conveniently located in Ward 7 at 120 Kirkham Drive (major intersection Markham Road & 14th Avenue – between Costco and Home Depot), has a reliable water source and a shed to store your materials and tools! We’ve got some tools that you can borrow too.
