Week 1 – June 29 to July 3 (4 Day: no camp Wednesday, July 1)

Museum: Mini Mystery Camp

Ages 4 to 8

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Put your Junior Detective on the case!  Campers spend the week learning various sleuthing skills as they find clues and solve puzzles.  Through hands-on activities, games and crafts, children will learn how to analyze evidence through finger prints, hand writing, and chemical analysis.  Using these new skills and teamwork, they will solve the case!

Museum: KEVA

Ages 8 to 12

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Design - Build - Play! Blending science with art, KEVA Planks brings out the designer, architect and engineer in each of us. With imagination and just a little help from gravity, campers will build structures and sculptures using identical construction blocks. Each day will focus on different principles of construction through hands on challenges, indoor and outdoor activities, and crafts and of course fun with over 15,000 KEVA Planks.

Week 2 – July 6 to July 10

Museum: Junior Gardeners Camp

Ages 4 to 8

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Become a gardener at the Museum! Campers will cultivate their green thumbs this summer in a variety of plantings where they will learn about eco-friendly gardening. Through daily planting, campers will discover how things grow, why bugs are beneficial to plants, and even how our green bins can help make gardens flourish.. Along with active games and cooperative activities, campers will create their very own garden treasures in our pottery studio to take home.

Museum: Survivor

Ages 8 to 12

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Campers will put their body and mind to the test as they work within teams to complete a week full of exciting challenges on the Museum’s 25 acre grounds.  During the team work competitions, campers will learn about the Museum, the environment, and basic camping skills.  Best of all these new found skills and team spirit will be put to the test on Thursday night at our camping sleepover.  Don’t forget your sleeping bag!

Museum: Half Day Pottery Camp

Ages 8 to 13

Come and enjoy Markham Museum’s Pottery Studio. Campers will create imaginative projects throughout the week, learning various techniques such as coiling, pinching process and slab building. Campers will be taught various pottery skills by our professional potter and gain inspiration for their projects from the Museum’s collection and natural spaces. A must have experience for any creative child! No experience required and all materials/firing included.

Museum: Junior Discovery H20 

Ages 4 to 8

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

An exciting camp for kids who want to discover more about our greatest natural resource, WATER! Campers will dive into fun indoor and outdoor hands-on activities, games and experiments where they will learn about water protection, conservation, technology, safety, and much more.  Campers will cool down on Friday with a trip to our brand new splash pad!

Museum: CSI-Camp Scene Investigation

Ages 8 to 12

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Time to step into the shoes of a Camp Scene Investigator! There is something amiss at the Museum this summer and we need your help to figure out this mystery.  Campers will learn about the science behind crime scene investigations and what it takes to be a real CSI.  Campers will work together to solve cases by gathering evidence, conducting chemical analysis, looking for fingerprints, decoding riddles and more.

Museum: Teen Pottery Wheel Throwing & Handbuilding Camp

Ages 12 to 16

Time: 1 PM to 4 PM

This half day camp provides a wonderful opportunity for teens to learn the basics of Pottery handbuilding, throwing and trimming on the potter’s wheel.  Led by our Ceramics studio instructor, campers will develop the skills to create functional or decorative pieces such as mugs, bowls, vases, creative creatures and unique sculptures.  We will touch on the ceramic art, history of clay around the world, geology, and even the chemistry of clay. We will also discuss building art portfolios for those interested in art schools.  No experience required and all materials/firings included.

Museum: Little Engineers Camp                                       

Ages 4 to 8

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Put your hard hat on as we begin to explore the basics of engineering!  Campers will use creativity, team work, and problem solving skills to investigate force, buoyancy and balance.  Through a variety of hands-on learning experiences, outdoor activities and cooperative games we will experiment with different shapes, materials, and basic mechanical principles to build structures and other amazing engineering projects.

Museum: Fashion, Fabric, and Fun Camp

Ages 8 to 13

Times: 9 AM to 4 PM

Calling all creative kids who have a passion for fashion! This week, campers will explore our interactive Textile Studio and try their hand at basic weaving, sewing, and felting techniques.  Campers will draw inspiration from the Museum's own textile and fashion collection to create their own fashion accessories. By the end of the week, these budding designers will get to show off their works at a fashion show.

Calling all scientists! Join us this week and explore the magic of science through amazing chemical experiments, engineering challenges, and cool electronic projects! Campers will mix colourful concoctions, connect simple circuits, build rockets, and much more.  Each day, campers will participate in a variety of hands-on experiments using the Scientific Method, fun outdoor activities, games, and fascinating projects.

Have you ever wondered how food travels from the farm to your dinner table? Campers will explore the Museum’s gardens, barns, and agricultural collection while learning the science, technology, and history involved in getting food from the farm to your table. Campers will experiment with recipes, engage in fun interactive games and crafts as they learn all about growing and harvesting food, its preservation and sustainability. This fun filled week also includes a day trip to a local farm!

Museum: Junior Archaeologists Camp

Ages 4 to 8

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Ready, Set, Dig!  If your camper loves to explore and get a little messy this is the camp for them.  Campers will engage in a wide range of indoor and outdoor activities that emphasize discovery, fun, and learning through hands-on archaeology based experiments and activities. Through a variety of simulated digs, your Junior Archaeologist will discover the basics of archaeology from the scientific processes involved in their excavation to classifying everything they find.

Ages 4 to 8

Step right up this summer as we explore the science behind all the jaw dropping and magical moments the circus has to offer.  From trapeze artists to juggling clowns, from tight rope walkers to the music that sets the mood for all the fun under the big top, campers will discover the amazing science and history that makes the circus the greatest show on earth.

Ages 8 to 12

Do you like solving problems? Then you may be a Future Engineer! Campers will step into the wonderful world of engineering and its various branches by applying STEM interdisciplinary approaches to daily challenges. This week, campers will work indoors and outdoors to create hands-on projects, work through problem solving activities, and participate in teamwork challenges that will develop their critical thinking and creative skills.

This week, discover the great outdoors by uncovering the natural wonders that exist within the Museum's 25 acres of parkland.  Campers will learn basic orienteering skills, explore urban ecosystems and habitats on nature walks, and learn about conservation and sustainability through the creation of eco-friendly crafts!

Museum: Clay and Cloth Camp 

Ages 8 to 12

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

From pinch pots to felting, from canvas printing to finger weaving, campers will participate in a variety of meaningful hands-on experiences in our historical and modern studio spaces alongside experts in both pottery and textiles. Throughout the week, campers will create imaginative projects drawing inspiration from the museum’s collection and beautiful natural spaces that will be displayed in their very own Friday Art Exhibition.

Museum: Junior Superhero Science

Ages 4 to 8

Time: 9 AM to 4 PM

Campers love superheroes, so why not explore science through their powers? This camp will encourage campers to learn about real life science and technology through the mythical powers of their favourite superheroes. Campers will also experience being part of a superhero team and learn the benefits of helping in the community. On Friday, there is a themed dress up day – all heroes unite!

It’s time to your grab a magnifying glass and trowel! History is a big puzzle and we need your help piecing it together.  Through mock excavations, engaging hands-on activities, and inspiring workshops with experts in their field campers will learn how museum curators and archaeologists solve ancient mysteries by piecing together the past.

Withdrawal and Refund Policy for Summer Camps


A full refund will be provided for any withdrawal and refund request submitted at least seven days before the camp start date.  No refund will be provided for any requests submitted after this time period, unless doctor’s note is provided.

A $10 administration fee may be applied to your refund. There is no $10 administration fee if the refund remains as a credit on your account.

Please note cash payments will be reimbursed by cheque (approximately 4-6 weeks after approval).

 

  

Special Needs Support  

 

The City of Markham prides itself on being an inclusive community, and, to further that goal, is taking steps to ensure its summer camps are open to as many children with special needs as possible.

Inclusion Counsellors are available to give one-on-one help for campers. Families are also welcome to bring their own support person.

The deadline to register for inclusion support is Friday, May 15, 2020.

Important Information for Parents/Guardians

 

  • Campers must be the set minimum age within the same year to attend the camp.
  • Campers must be toilet trained.
  • Campers should wear clothing for indoor and outdoor activities.
  • Parents will receive important emails throughout the summer (please call the Customer Contact Centre at 905.477.5530 if your email address is not on file).
  • Campers must be signed in and out of camp each day (photo ID may be required).
  • Counsellor to Camper Ratio:
    • 6 years and younger - 1 counsellor : 7 campers
    • 7 years and older - 1 counsellor : 10 campers 

 

 

Before and After Care Programs

 

Before Care

This program runs 7:30am-9:00am and is designed for campers before the camp day begins. Supervised quiet activities include board games, cards, puzzles and more.

Cost for 5 day week: $31.73

Cost for 4 day week: $25.38

 

After Care

This program run 4:00pm-6:00pm and is designed for campers after the camp day ends. Campers will partake in supervised activities and have the opportunity to explore our Markham Moves exhibition, an interactive, hands-on exhibit about transportation! *

Cost for 5 day week: $42.30

Cost for 4 day week: $33.84

*Please note there is a $1 a minute fee for late pick-ups.

 

Full-Day Camp Hot Lunch Programs

 

Hot lunch program – Monday - Thursday

This summer we are proud to be working with Kids Kitchen Co. again to provide an optional hot lunch program Monday-Thursday to all full-day campers at the Markham Museum.  Kids Kitchen Co. provides hot and nutritious lunch items that are convenient at an affordable rate through an easy online ordering system.  Lunches will be available to order starting at the beginning of June 2020.  Please note Markham Museum is the only City of Markham Camp that is currently providing this service.

 

Pizza Fridays

Fridays are pizza days at the Museum and NEW this year pizza orders can be completed online at time of registration.  Parents/Guardians can choose to order up to 3 slices of cheese or pepperoni pizza for $2.25 per slice. Apple juice boxes can also be order for $0.75 per juice box.

How do I enter?

For every summer camp you register for between February 4 at 6:30 AM EST and February 29, 2020 at 11:59 PM EST, you will receive one (1) contest entry.

If registrations are cancelled, the corresponding contest entry will become invalid.
