Markham Public Library is very progressive. We are recognized for innovation in these areas:
We use C3 (Customer Centred Classification) to organize the library collections. C3 is an award winning system designed by staff to replace the traditional Dewey Decimal Classification System. C3 makes the library easier to use by organizing the collections into customer-friendly categories like “Food and Drink” or “History”.
We are a leader in the implementation of RFID technology and self-service technology in public libraries. MPL was the first public library in Canada to use automated check-in technology. Our self-service technologies improve convenience to library users and help library staff keep pace with growth.
Our Customer Service Revolution reframed how customer service is delivered, empowering staff to deliver exceptional customer service. The initiative received the Institute of Public Administrators of Canada’s Gold Medal of Innovation and the Ministry of Culture’s Innovation Award.
