Donated materials and material that is withdrawn from the Library’s collection may be purchased at the Library’s book sales. We host two book sales each year and most branches also have items for sale on an ongoing basis. Ask staff at your local branch for information. Money raised by book sales is used to improve the Library’s collections.

To better understand the economic value that Markham Public Library provides to Markham, we conducted an economic impact study, using a methodology commonly used across many sectors, including culture, parks, sports tourism, & public libraries.
In 2016 Markham created $82.6 million in total economic impact to the City of Markham. That means each household in Markham gained a benefit of $805 from library services.
Donations to the library help us to continue to make a difference.
Honour with Books is the Library’s gift-giving program that offers a unique way to honour a person on special occasions such as anniversary, birthday, graduation, wedding, retirement, or in memory of loved ones. While you are remembering those moments that mean so much, your donation helps the Library build its book collection. The Library has raised $24,388.11 since the start of the program.
What will you receive?
With a minimum donation of $25 we will send you a card of thanks and a tax receipt. A distinctive bookplate listing the name of the donor and the person being honoured will be placed in each new book purchased for every $25 donation. The person you are honouring will also receive a card acknowledging your gift in their honour. The amount of your donation will not be disclosed.
Our staff will follow the Selection of Library Materials Policy in purchasing appropriate books. We cannot fill requests for specific titles.
