You should be prepared to take care of yourself and your family for 72-hours (3 days). A basic home emergency preparedness kit will help you do that.
Important documents (passport, birth certificate, etc.)
Radio (tune in to 105.9 FM (CFMS) – the City of Markham’s official emergency and information radio station)
Phone charger and battery bank
First aid kit
Utility knife and manual can opener
Prescription medication and infant formula
Change of clothes
Toiletries
Money (small bills and change)
Non-perishable food (canned/dried food, energy bars, etc.) and water (4 litres per person per day)
Flashlight (wind-up or battery operated)
Specialty items specific to your family needs (walking cane, reading glasses etc.)
Keep an Emergency Car Kit in every vehicle you own. Have a “Grab and Go” emergency kit for each member of your household. Keep these near your exit doors. This helps if you must evacuate your home quickly.
