Deliberate dumping is illegal! Illegal dumping can lead to fines up to $2,000.
Markham’s Keep Markham Beautiful (Maintenance) By-Law 2017-27 prohibits the disposing of material in non-designated areas such as parks, public property, ditches, rural areas and vacant lots. This includes all Canada Post community mailbox locations, which are owned and maintained by the Federal Government.
Most illegal dumping is done by residents that fail to take the time and effort to dispose of items properly.
Commonly dumped materials include household garbage, yard waste, furniture, tires and a variety of scrap materials. The City of Markham provides many environmental options to easily and properly dispose of your unwanted material.
