Clear Bag Garbage

Clear Bag GarbageThe City of Markham collects garbage every other week on your regular collection day. Please follow your Collection Schedule.

You must put garbage in a clear bag. No black, dark, tinted, coloured, or white bags are accepted.

You need to put your garbage at your curb by 7 AM on your collection day. Or, you can put it at the curb after 7 PM the night before. These times can change any time and are found in By-law 32-95.

“Target Zero” is an aggressive program to educate and enforce the elimination of personal protective equipment (PPE) in the Blue Box. 

Starting October 6, Miller Waste will sticker and leaving behind Blue Boxes that contain masks, gloves and wipes. The sticker instructs residents to remove all PPE from the Blue Box and place in clear bag garbage.  

COVID-19 related PPE (single-use masks, gloves and wipes) continue to be placed in curbside Blue Boxes and eventually into the recycling sorting facility through the recycling trucks. This has resulted in health and safety concerns for both collectors and the processing staff who manually pick the gloves and masks off the sorting line. The goal is zero PPE in the Blue Box to ensure everyone’s safety!
