What if I have an existing membership that has been on hold due to COVID-19 facility closures?

Hassle-Free memberships that were purchased before March 2020 remain on hold and pre-authorized payments will not be processed. 

Term memberships remain on hold. The expiry date for your membership will be extended based on the number of days our community and fitness centres are closed.

3-for-2 memberships remain on hold. The expiry date for your membership will be extended based on the number of days our community and fitness centres are closed.

Day passes and 10 ticket punch cards are not sold or honoured at this time.

If you would like to access the fitness centres during this time, you must purchase a Return To Fit membership.


Is swimming pool access, aquafit classes and public skates included with Return to Fit membership?

Yes, lane swim, recreational swim, aquafit classes and public skates are included at select facilities that are open. All swims, aquafit classes and skates need to be pre-booked in advance. New timeslots are available every Monday at 8 AM.


Is sauna, towel service, whirlpool, change room and shower access included to the Return to Fit membership?

Towel service, sauna, whirlpool, showers are not available. Lockers and locker rooms are available for storing items and changing. Washrooms are available; it is recommended that members limit the use of the washrooms while at the centre.

Do I need to wear a mask when exercising?

No. You do not need to wear a mask or face covering when exercising. Masks or face coverings are required at all other times while indoors such as during extended rest periods, walking through the centre, and in the locker room.

When is my Return to Fit pre-authorized payment charged each month?

Pre-authorized payments for Return to Fit memberships are processed on the 15th of every month or the first business day after the 15th if it falls on a weekend.

Can I convert my group fitness class registration into a Return to Fit membership?

Yes! To get access to all fitness classes and become a Return to Fit member, please contact the Contact Centre at customerservice@markham.ca or 905.477.5530.


What if I have personal training sessions?

All personal training sessions remain suspended while we gradually reopen our fitness centres.


When will the other fitness centres re-open?

The City of Markham is taking a responsible approach to reopening during a very unprecedented and challenging time. The Aaniin Fitness Center will be the first to reopen and as we evaluate member response we will reopen additional fitness centers. We do not have a schedule as to when additional fitness centers will be reopen at this time.


How do I access in-person group fitness classes for Fall 2021?

Active Return to Fit Members have to pre-book their spot to attend an in-person group fitness class or fitness centre workout.  Pre-booking opens one week in advance on Mondays at 8 AM. To access a virtual class, active Return to Fit members just have to register once to obtain the Zoom link. 

Non-members can register for virtual classes ONLY.

Day passes and 10 ticket punch cards are not sold or honoured at this time.


How do I access the fitness center for in-person workout sessions?

Active Return to Fit members have to pre-book their spot to workout at the fitness centre. Pre-booking opens one week in advance on Mondays at 8 AM. Pre-booking is highly recommended. Members can book more than one time slot if necessary.

Active Return to Fit members also have an option to “walk in” if space is available during that timeslot. There will be a 10 minute grace period for all pre-booked time slots.


What is the capacity of the fitness centre for in-person workout timeslot? 

The fitness center will have a capacity of 30 people at any time. This also includes track users. There are separate capacity limits for in-person group fitness classes depending on the room used.
