The name “Aaniin,” pronounced [ah-nee], means “hello” or “welcome” in Ojibway. The name was chosen to welcome Markham’s many diverse communities, to celebrate Canada’s 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, and in honour of our First Nations people.
Aaniin Community Centre & Library is the City’s latest facility. The 122,000-square-foot, fully accessible facility is located on more than 13 acres of land and has state-of-the-art amenities and features.

The Creation Studio is a dedicated space for the community to explore creative pursuits such as painting, crafting, and textile arts. The Creation Studio provides a sense of community for crafters and local makers and a friendly environment to take up knitting, learn sewing and discover your creative self.
The Digital Media Lab allows you to explore digital media production with Mac computers and professional software including Adobe Design. Discover your creativity by shooting and editing a short movie or recording and mixing your own music. Digitize slides, photographs or VHS tapes. Try graphic design, stop motion or green screen technology.
Children of all ages will be thrilled to explore each nook and cranny. Featuring 4,000 feet of play space, the areas provides hours of fun and laughter. Slides, climbing stations, tunnels, riding toys and more will keep them busy!
The new Aaniin Library offers the best of traditional library services and new and innovative spaces. Visit the Library to find a great book to read or movie to watch, to study, research, or use a computer. You'll also find opportunities to discover new technologies like 3D printing, participate in maker activities, learn coding and other digital skills, or connect with others through our many programs, workshops and events.
While we'd love to see you at our new library you can also visit us online 24/7 to use credible research databases and to borrow from our digital collection - eBooks, audiobooks, magazines, newspapers, movies, graphic novels, music, and comic books. Joining the library is free if you live, work or go to school in Markham or York Region. Register at any MPL branch with ID that includes your name and current address.
The Makerspace is a place where people gather to share knowledge, learn new technology and “make” in a collaborative and do-it-yourself environment. Explore 3D printing, 3D scanning and laser cutting, experiment with robotics, circuitry, or drones, play with ozobots or Lego Mindstorm. The Makerspace also offers programs and workshops with the help of community experts.
The multisensory room is an immersive environment which has been specifically designed to develop the user's senses. It includes special sensory equipment which can either stimulate the user's mental activity, provide a relaxing environment or promote interaction. The centre will be open for drop-in during specific times and for registered programming including mediation, baby gym, and music programs.
The older adult room hosts a range of activities including tai chi, line dancing, card playing, mild mobility exercises and of course, socializing! This warm, bright space overlooks the park and is an ideal setting to connect with other community members.
Our aquatics area includes a 25-metre, 6 lane swimming pool with rock climbing wall, a warm 131-square-metre teaching and leisure pool with a current walk, and a whirlpool.
We hope you’re hungry! The aromas wafting from the teaching kitchen will entice many noses to check out what’s cookin’. The kitchen is home to a variety of general and speciality cooking classes for all ages to enjoy.
The Youth Hub is a great place for teens (11 to 18 years old) to hang out with friends on our oversized couches and beanbag chairs in the lounge, surf the internet, or join in games and workshops.
Games include: PS4, bubble hockey, foosball and table tennis!
