The City of Markham Thornlea Pool, previous owned by the York Region District School Board until 2012, has been undergoing repairs and restoration work. This work began in March 2021 after it was discovered that the pool's dehumidification unit required replacement. The restoration project also included wall repairs and a roof replacement.
Near the completion of the restoration work, it was found that there were cracks in the pool deck tiles resulting in minor leaks and the inability to properly hold water in the pool tank.
A consultant was brought in to assess and investigated the situation, and it was recommended to:
-remove all tiles across the deck and shallow end of the pool
-complete the necessary concrete repairs from within the pool tank and on the deck
-install a new waterproofing membrane and create a single monolithic system, followed by full retiling.
This additional work is expected to be approved by the council after April 19th, with the project taking place between May 2023 and September 2023.
Stay tuned as we will continue to post updates here.
