In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the City of Markham’s Recreation Department is now offering the Pop-up Park Program – providing safe and convenient 1.5 hour programs for kids ages 6 to 12.
Programs will be available at 24 parks across the City. Get outside, get active and have some fun this Summer!
Registration opens June 29, 2020 at 8 AM!
All programs support the development of your child’s physical literacy as part of the City’s ‘Markham in Motion’ program. Developing these skills help kids gain confidence and motivates them to lead healthier active lives as they grow up. Physically literate children are happier, healthier and more confident which leads them to perform better in school!
The safety of everyone at the program is our number 1 priority. Please read the following to help your child have a smooth transition back to in-person programs and allow everyone to have a safe and enjoyable program.
Arrive early on site and show your child the safe spaces in the park
Tell them about the screening protocols that are in place and what to expect i.e. temperature checks
Practice physical distancing. Teach them what is a safe distance and how to follow visual markings when present.
Teach them what is a
face covering or mask
and that people are using them to keep clean and safe. Note face masks are not required when physical distancing is possible. Participants are welcome to wear masks if they choose however it is not recommended for physical activities.
Remind children to avoid touching their own face and encourage them to practice “catching” their cough or sneeze in their elbow
Remind children to recognize their own personal belongings and to use them when needed. Remind them not to touch other people’s belongings.
Talk about patience with new routines, environments, and new program instructors
Encourage them to ask questions and reassure them that safety measures and program leaders are here to keep them safe
