Appointment Of Adam Grant As Chief Of Markham Fire And Emergency Services
On behalf of Members of Council and the City of Markham, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Adam Grant as Chief of Markham Fire and Emergency Services. Prior to accepting this role, Chief Grant served as Deputy Chief and Emergency Management Coordinator for the City of Markham.
Chief Grant joined Markham Fire and Emergency Services in 2006 and brings an extraordinary record of accomplishment to the role as Fire Chief with a passion for fire prevention, education and staff development. A compassionate and determined professional, Chief Grant is as much a teacher as he is a first responder. He has previously served in the roles of Fire Prevention Officer, Public Education Officer, Chief Fire Prevention Officer and most recently Deputy Chief.
Throughout the process to fill the position, we were impressed by Adam’s desire to engage and transform the Fire Service. Under Chief Grant’s leadership, we know that innovation and creativity will be at the core of his leadership. His vision for Markham Fire and Emergency Services complements the overall vision of our city: Leading through Innovation.
As we mark Remembrance Week in Markham, I am reminded of a beautiful quote from In Flanders Fields by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae:
“To you from failing hands, we throw the torch; be yours to hold it high.”
Today, we pass the torch to our new chief and entrust in him the duty to protect our community.
I extend my congratulations to Chief Grant’s wife Laurel and their daughter Isla, as well as his parents, siblings and extended family. My appreciation and thanks also go out to Chief Dave Decker for his service to Markham and I wish him all the best in his retirement. I also want to thank Deputy Chief Chris Nearing for his leadership throughout the transition.
Please join me in congratulating Adam Grant as our new Chief of Markham Fire and Emergency Services.
