Board and Committee Vacancies
There are currently vacancies on the following Boards or Committees:
Heritage Markham Committee
The committee advises and assists City Council on matters relating to heritage conservation and promotion. There is currently one (1) vacancy for a resident that resides in the Thornhill Community.Meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM
Applicants should have an interest in local architectural conservation.

Box Grove Community Centre Board
The Board is responsible for the operation, management and maintenance of the Box Grove Community Centre. There are currently two (2) vacancies on the Board.
- Meetings are held bi-monthly on a weekday to be determined in the evening.
Applicants should reside in the Box Grove community.

German Mills Meadow and Natural Habitat Liaison Committee
The Committee assists in communicating to the community information regarding the City’s management and rehabilitation activities of the former landfill. There are currently three (3) vacancies for residents at large.
- The Committee meets annually or as needed.
Preference is for applicants to reside in the German Mills area.

Doors Open Markham Organizing Committee
The Committee undertakes the planning and implementation of the annual Doors Open Markham event. There are currently (5) vacancies on the Committee.
- Day and time of the meetings will be determined at its inaugural meeting.
Experience in event planning is an asset.

Cycling & Pedestrian Advisory Committee
The Committee represents the interests of cyclists and pedestrians in Markham, focusing on their needs and priorities. It provides advice and support to the City on cycling & pedestrian infrastructure, education/outreach and research. There are up to two (2) vacancies.
- Meetings are held monthly on the third Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM.
Applicants should be familiar with issues pertaining to cyclist & pedestrians.

Race Relations Committee
The Race Relations Committee provides advice to Council on matters impacting racialized communities in Markham. There is currently one (1) vacancy on the Committee.
- Meetings are currently being held via Zoom on the first Monday of the month at 6 PM.
It is an asset for applicants to have lived experience (direct or first-hand accounts and impressions of living as a member of a racialized or oppressed group), knowledge and expertise of racialized communities represented in the City of Markham.

The Policy ensures the most qualified applicants are appointed as Members, and that applicants are representative of Markham’s diverse community.

- Mayor’s Black Youth Liaison Committee

The Mayor’s Black Youth Liaison Committee will be a voice for Black youth in the City of Markham by providing an open forum for youth to convey perspectives on issues and initiatives that are of particular importance to them. The Committee will provide guidance and advice to the City to support Black youth in the community and combat anti-Black racism, in collaboration with key City staff, including the City’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist, political leaders and community stakeholders.
