Board and Committee Vacancies
There are currently vacancies on the following Boards or Committees:
Committee of Adjustment
The Committee is a statutory, arms-length Committee of Council responsible for adjudicating on various Planning Act matters, including minor variances and consents to sever properties, among other duties.
- Meetings are held on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., approximately 18 meetings per year.
- There are up to seven (7) vacancies.
- Knowledge of the municipal planning process and experience on an adjudicative body preferred.

Doors Open Markham Organizing Committee
The Committee undertakes the planning and implementation of the Doors Open Markham Event.
- Meetings are held monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 5:30 PM.
- There are currently up to five (5) vacancies.
- Experience in event planning is an asset.
Application Deadline: October 14, 2024
Environmental Advisory Committee
The Committee provides advice on environmental policy, planning & sustainability and promotes environmental awareness within the community.
- There are currently up to two (2) vacancies on the Committee.
- Meetings are held on the Third or fourth Thursday of the month at 7 PM.
- Knowledge of environmental planning, policy & sustainability is an asset.

Heintzman House Community Centre Board
The Board is responsible for the operation, management and maintenance of the Heintzman House Community Centre Board.
- There are currently up to (3) vacancies on the Board.
- Meetings are held monthly on a Thursday.
- It is preferred that applicants reside in the Thornhill area.

Markham Accessibility Advisory Committee
The Committee shall assist Council in improving opportunities for persons with disabilities by promoting the implementation of the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) in Markham.
- Meeting are held the third Monday of the month at 5 PM at Markham Civic centre (excluding July and August).
- There are currently up to three (3) vacancies on the Committee.
Applicants should be a person with a disability or a person with professional or lived experience supporting persons with disabilities.

Seniors' Hall of Fame Committee
The Committee undertakes the planning and execution of the Seniors Hall of Fame Awards.
- There is currently 8-10 vacancies.
- Meetings are typically held at 11 AM on a week day.
Applicants shall be actively involved in the community.

Race Relations Committee
The Race Relations Committee provides advice to Council on matters impacting racialized communities in Markham. There is currently one vacancy on the Committee.
- Meetings are currently being held via Zoom on the first Monday of the month at 6 PM.
- There is currently up to two (2) vacancies.
It is an asset for applicants to have lived experience (direct or first-hand accounts and impressions of living as a member of a racialized or oppressed group), and knowledge and expertise of racialized communities represented in the City of Markham.

The Policy ensures the most qualified applicants are appointed as Members, and that applicants are representative of Markham’s diverse community.

- Mayor’s Black Youth Liaison Committee

The Mayor’s Black Youth Liaison Committee will be a voice for Black youth in the City of Markham by providing an open forum for youth to convey perspectives on issues and initiatives that are of particular importance to them. The Committee will provide guidance and advice to the City to support Black youth in the community and combat anti-Black racism, in collaboration with key City staff, including the City’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Specialist, political leaders and community stakeholders.
