Celebrating 30 years of Black History Month & Flag Raising Ceremony
The program will feature remarks from the Mayor Scarpitti and members of the Mayor’s Black Youth Liaison (MBYL) who will share youth perspectives on Black legacy, leadership, and the future of Markham, highlighting the voices and experiences of young leaders in our community.
The program will also include a spoken word performance by Nadine Williams, an acclaimed poet whose work explores identity, resilience, and Black lived experiences through powerful storytelling.
The keynote address will be delivered by Rosemary Sadlier, an internationally respected educator, historian, and former President of the Ontario Black History Society. Ms. Sadlier is a leading voice in Black history education in Canada and will speak to the enduring legacy of Black leadership and its relevance today.
The event will conclude with a flag raising ceremony in recognition of Black History Month. We hope you will join us for this meaningful opportunity to reflect, learn, and celebrate. We look forward to your participation.
