Celebrate Lunar New Year at Markham Museum! Join us on February 21st from 10 AM to 4 PM in our transportation hall as we welcome the Year of the Horse with an unforgettable family friendly celebration! Explore the traditions of Lunar New Year with hands-on activities. Gallery spaces are open with admission fees.
Event Details: Hands-On Activities
-Zhezhi (Paper Folding): Explore the 2,000-year-old art form that inspired paper-folding traditions around the world, including Japanese origami.
-Chinese Paper Cutting: Master the Tang Dynasty folk art of creating intricate designs, including bat designs that symbolize prosperity and blessings (Fu).
-Calligraphy: Try Chinese calligraphy and create beautiful characters that show art and emotion Horse-Themed Crafts & Games Celebrate the Year of the Horse with creative and interactive activities for all ages.
Mahjong Join in this timeless game, a beloved tradition in Chinese and Chinese-Canadian culture that brings families and communities closer together.
Tickets are FREE—but donations are strongly encouraged to support future cultural programs at Markham Museum. Tickets do not include access to our gallery spaces. Don’t miss this vibrant celebration of tradition, creativity, and community. Markham Museum looks forward to celebrating with you!
