Changes to Noise Bylaw & Exception Process
Noise Bylaw
- The City has extended the permitted times allowed for amplified music and sound to 11:00 p.m. on both Fridays and Saturdays. As a result, residential and special events that take place on Fridays and Saturdays and end before 11:00 p.m. will no longer require an exception.
- The City has changed the permitted times allowed for generation of noise in connection with construction equipment by limiting permitted times on Saturdays from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sundays and statutory holidays will continue to be prohibited at all times. Any construction project taking place outside of these permitted times will be required to apply for an exception.
Noise Exception Process
- The City will no longer accept hand written paper exemption application forms.
- The City has implemented a new simplified and fully digital application system for the processing of all Noise Exemption Applications. The system will automatically transfer all information on the application form, eliminating the time required to process each exemption.
- The City has changed and simplified the payment process. An exemption fee of $320.00 is required for all construction and special events unless this construction/event is being hosted on behalf of the City, The Region, The Ministry of Transportation, or a registered not-for-profit/charitable organization. In addition to the current cheque payment, a new online payment option is available for efficiency and convenience to applicants.
