The new 10-story state-of-the-art campus will be located in a transit integrated, mixed use, and high-density urban core - Markham Centre. Markham was selected by York University with the support of the Ontario Government and York Region.

The Smart Cities Challenge was introduced by Infrastructure Canada to empower communities of all sizes across Canada to address local issues through new partnerships, using a smart cities approach.

We are Canada's high-tech capital and its 16th-largest municipality. We are the largest of nine communities in York Region. We have a population of over 353,000 and a land area of 212 square kilometres. Of the 10,400 companies in Markham, there are more than 400 Canadian head offices located here.
