Bird Walk in Celebration of World Migratory Bird Day

Join us for a Bird Walk in Rouge National Urban Park. Bid farewell to migratory Birds as we celebrate World Migratory Bird Day.

Celebrate World Migratory Bird Day. Join us at Rouge National Urban Park, one of the most biodiverse places in our city, an eBird hotspot and it's right on our doorstep! Participants will learn how to differentiate between bird species that are preparing for their long migration south after raising their families amongst our community as well as the species who will overwinter here with us. Our theme is "Every Bird Counts, Your Observations Matter." We will highlight the need to create and adapt environments to support bird populations across all communities, including what the City of Markham is doing to become more Bird Friendly. We will demonstrate how to use binoculars (please bring your binoculars if you have them), field guides and birding apps to prepare you for your next birding adventure. Your walk leader, Simone Granieri, Community Outreach Coordinator with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority will share her knowledge of birds and the importance of preserving the habitats that birds call home.

Walk length: 1.5 hours

Bring your binoculars.

This program is for ages 6 and above.

Dogs are not allowed (Guide dogs excepted).

Please dress appropriately for the weather, hiking boots are recommended.

For tick safety, long pants tucked into socks are recommended in additional to a light coloured long sleeve shirt.
