Please save the date for the City of Markham’s Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day commemorative event, taking place at the Flato Markham Theatre on September 30.

This gathering will provide an opportunity for staff and community members to come together in reflection, learning, and relationship-building as we continue the journey toward reconciliation.

The program will include a ceremonial opening led by Indigenous Elders, remarks from City leadership and community voices, and opportunities to honour the experiences, resilience, and ongoing contributions of Survivors, families, and Indigenous communities.

We hope you will join us for this meaningful day as we come together to listen, learn, reflect, and consider our shared responsibilities to truth and reconciliation. There will be some collective work and reflections we will undertake as a City on this day. Orange Shirt Day: A limited number of Orange Shirts will be available. Staff and attendees are encouraged to wear orange in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and in honour of the children who never returned home, Survivors, their families, and communities.
