Forbes names City of Markham amongst Canada’s Best Employers for 6th straight year
MARKHAM, ON – January 20, 2026 – For the sixth consecutive year, the City of Markham has been recognized as one of Canada’s Best Employers 2026. Announced earlier today, the City of Markham is ranked third among municipalities in Canada and 15th overall for Government Services.
“Six years and still going strong. Ranking third best city in all of Canada this year keeps Markham at the top of the municipal sector," said Mayor Frank Scarpitti. “This recognition speaks to our commitment to creating a workplace where people excel and are fully engaged in meaningful work for our community. Thanks to our senior management team, and every member of our staff who contribute to making our organization an incredible one.”
The City of Markham was once again named one of Canada’s Best Employers for 2026 by Forbes and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider, through an independent survey of more than 37,000 Canada-based employees working for companies employing at least 500 people in Canada. The evaluation was based on direct and indirect recommendations from employees that were asked to rate their willingness to recommend their own employers to friends and family. Employee evaluations also included other employers in their respective industries.
"We are honoured to once again be recognized by Forbes Canada as one of the country’s Best Employers — an honour that reflects our unwavering commitment to putting people first and leading with our Core Values,” said CAO Andy Taylor. “As a values-driven organization, the City of Markham is focused on creating a workplace where employees feel valued, empowered and supported. Through our commitment to delivering exceptional services by exceptional people, we are focused on meeting the evolving needs and expectations of the community we serve.”
Markham’s strength as an employer comes from our commitment to a learning-focused workplace rooted in open communication, diversity and inclusion, and a culture of recognition and appreciation. We bring this commitment to life through programs and initiatives such as our Rewards and Recognition Program, Learning Catalogue, Diversity Action Plan, Eliminating Anti-Black Racism Plan and Multi-Year Accessibility Plan, and more.
We are pleased and proud to be recognized along with a number of global companies with a large presence in Markham including: AMD, GE, Enbridge, Honda Canada, Huawei, IBM, Johnson & Johnson, Oak Valley Health, TD Bank Group, and many others. These employers continue to contribute significantly to Markham’s reputation as a world class city offering high quality jobs, and attracting and retaining top global talent.
